Dr John P. Mills

I am the Principle Investigator of the Team Research Lab and supervise the eight researchers (five PhD candidates and three Masters by Dissertation) who make up the group. I received my B.Sc. in Psychology and Childhood Development from the University of Suffolk and my Ph.D. from the the University of Birmingham. My research is funded by the British Academy and the World Anti-Doping Agency and focuses on how young people develop in and through sport. This includes research on values, virtues, norms, practices, identities, and the psychosocial mechanisms that combine to regulate both individual and group behaviour.

Outside of the lab, I am the founder of SportRχiv, the Past Executive Chair of the Society for Transparency, Openness, and Replication in Kinesiology (STORK), the Co-Editor in Chief of Registered Reports in Kinesiology, consult for a national sports-based education charity, and lead the Developing Young People through Sport Group at the University of Essex. I am also a British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), a member of the Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
